Denton County
Minutes north of Flower Mound, the DFW Airport and the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex

Highland Village is a small lakefront community, with the far western branch of Lewisville Lake comprising its northern border. The city is primarily residential with two planned communities, Highland Shores and Castlewood, located within it.

Its top-ranked educational system, upper-income family-oriented environment, and the planned preservation of open space throughout a lakefront community make a winning combination for many families. Although, the most recent projection by the U.S. Census Bureau puts the city's population close to 15,000, it is relatively small in comparison to its bordering cities of Lewisville and Flower Mound, which for many simply increases its appeal.

Highland Village is the home of the annual Lions Club Balloon Festival held at the Copperas Branch Park on Lewisville Lake each August.

Geography
With its close proximity to Lewisville Lake, Highland Village has a slightly more rolling topography and more abundance of trees then some of its bordering cities. According to the United States Census Bureau 13.88% of the cities' total area is water. Flower Mound provides the southern border for Highland Village, with Lewisville to the East, and smaller, more rural cities of Double Oak, Copper Canyon, Bartonville and Argyle to the West. An east to west highway, Farm to Market Road FM 1171, is in the process of an expansion that will run from Flower Mound through Highland Village and connect to the city of Corinth on the opposite side of Lewisville Lake from Highland Village.

Education
Highland Village residents are served by the Lewisville Independent School District, with three elementary schools and two middle schools and nearby Marcus High School, located in Flower Mound as the city's principal high school.

Growth
Like Flower Mound, Highland Village incorporated as a city in the early 1960s, yet by the 1970 census only 516 residents registered. With the opening of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Highland Village was infused with a massive growth spurt like other cities north of the airport. The census figures rose sharply: 3,246 in 1980, 7,027 in 1990, 12,173 in 2000, and 14,589 in 2004 (estimated). The city remains a primarily residential area, though more business development is occurring.

The leaders of Highland Village are very aggressive in the recruitment of quality retail that meets the needs of the community. In addition to business recruitment, Highland Village works with existing businesses to ensure sustained economic growth.

The rapidly expanding population of Highland Village and surrounding cities, the key location minutes north of the D/FW Metroplex and the appealing demographic base makes Highland Village a prime location for retail development and homeowners.
